Chernobyl: 30 Years On

2016 marks 30 years since history's worst nuclear accident in Chernobyl, Ukraine. Killing thousands and threatening the lives of millions, the site is still one of the most dangerous places on the planet. The barriers covering the old reactor have been slowly leaking for years, so now it's time for a massive new construction project. A gigantic sarcophagus is being built to cover the damaged nuclear power plant. Elsewhere, the waste from the early years of nuclear power is still proving a problem across the world. After nuclear waste was found leaking into the water supply in Germany, innovative new solutions had to be found to protect people's health.

Cyberwars

We are in the middle of a worldwide cyber war that started in 2007. Ground Zero is the tiny Baltic state of Estonia. Here, the game of war changed overnight, when Estonia's entire banking system was attacked online, suspending cash flows and causing panic. This documentary looks at the stage where the first cyber war in history was set and meets the people who were in charge at the time: from the Estonian government, former spies and major IT experts working for global leading telecommunication enterprises. What does this cyber-attack mean for the future? The show also investigates what this means for individuals. You may think you are safe, but a quick experiment shows how easy it is for a person's digital identity to be hacked and used for nefarious purposes.
